Using articles as models

Patricia Thurston
Using the articles as possible models for the first formal paper assignment.
I realize that in order to write an appropriate and a well-established paper I
will need to, as the two authors of the articles did, choose a time in my life when I
decided to learn to do something specific and successfully accomplished the goal in
mind. I will need to explain how I came to that point in my life, why did I want to
learn this skill, what about it caught my interest, what was happening in my life that
brought me to the need to learn or the desire to learn something new? I can model
after the articles we have read and give examples of the people I chose to learn my
newly attained skill from; this would help greatly in making my formal paper to
become just that, more formal. Giving the reader of my paper an insight on the
mentor or mentors my lessons and skills came from will help the reader to better
understand my journey through the process of this significant educational
experience in my life.
The articles we read can also be used as a model of what not to do; if I
need to discuss specifics of the educational experience I will be describing in my
paper, I know not to be unclear. I will, of course need to explain anything I learned
such as jargon or particular experiences pertaining specifically to the educational
experience that the reader of my paper may not understand if he or she is not
educated in the subject matter. I also know from the articles not to go on in too
much depth about experiences during the time I spent attaining the new education
or skills that do not particularly pertain to the actual experience of the education
itself; this can only cause the reader to lose interest and become impatient with my
paper.
I look forward to doing more research and finding a few more models to use
for writing my formal paper on an educational experience in my life.

  1. You make a good point to not go into excessive detail, I just hope that I can keep my blogs concise and poignant.

  2. I didn't think to look at what not to use from articles. I will definitely think of that when reading the next few articles.
